Determination of the refractive index

The refractive index of  a glass is the property that defines the optical behavior of lenses, optical fibers, waveguides, etc when interacting with light radiation.

In Staazione Sperimentale del Vetro the measurement  is performed on standard prismatic glass specimens at four specific wavelengths, from which it is possible to derive the functional dependence of the refractive index  from the wavelength of the incident radiation.
