Mechanical Tests

The laboratories of Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro are equipped with complete instrumentation for the mechanical characterization of hollow glass, flat glass and refractory materials: impact, internal pressure, axial load, thermal shock tests are possible for containers; for flat glass, impact tests can be carried out via axe, ball-drop and pendulum (double wheel) swing methods, and bending tests are available in three and four point versions, as well as with the double concentric ring method; for refractory materials, cold and hot bending resistance (MOR) and cold compressive strenght measurements (CCS), as well as determination of elastic modules (MOE) and of abrasion resistance, can be carried out.

Mechanical tests can be carried out either by following standard test procedures, or by defining custom test methods and equipment, following the specific needs of the customer.
